Adovcacy on reproductive issues
EDEN speaks up on important issues involving surrogacy, ivf and donorship in New Zealand
We do this by helping to make people aware of current issues, and writing submissions to ACART. You can make your voice heard too...
ACART is the committee that advises the Government on reproductive health issues, and writes the guidelines that need to followed. http://acart.health.govt.nz/
Issues that need to be addressed currently are: 'the 12 rule' in regard to surrogacy adoptions, and compensation for Surrogates e.g. maternity clothing costs. (In the same manner the committee is currently addressing compensation for egg donors). Information on 'the 12 day rule', and other surrogacy considerations can be found here : Donorship/Surrogacy
One more important issue to do with surrogacy adoption is that currently the intending father's name does not appear on birth certificate and this has to be amended some time after the adoption has confirmed. At present the intending father (if the biologial parent) appears as 'donor' on the birth certificte or the surrogate's husband/partner is recorded as the child's parent. It is another example of how the law needs to catch up with reprdouctive options currently available.

IMPORTANT: Reviewing compensation for costs incurred by surrogates IS NOT endorsing commercial surrogacy in anyway. EDEN DOES NOT support any moves in the commercial surrogacy, or donorship, direction but does seek some discussion, clarification and amendments to current regulations.
